What are Native Species?

Native species are plants, animals, and other organisms that naturally occur in a particular region and have evolved there over time. They are generally preferred because they are well adapted to local climate, soils, and wildlife, requiring less water, fertilizer, and maintenance than non-native species.

Native species also play an important role in supporting biodiversity, providing food and habitat for local pollinators, birds, and other wildlife while helping to maintain healthy, resilient ecosystems.
