2026_Water Week print and digital ads_KKS_logo 2💦Lexington’s Water week is March 20 – 29.Water Week is an annual celebration dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of water, coinciding with World Water Day on March 22.

Groups raise awareness and residents act by participating in some of the many events honoring the earth, our environment and clean water! Past events have included litter cleanups, tree plantings, tours of water quality projects, creek walks, trivia nights, lectures and workshops about green infrastructure.

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of fresh water. World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.1 billion people living without access to safe water.

Earth Hour began 20 years ago with the symbolic “lights off” in support of our planet, which is observed March 28 at 8.30pm. Over the years, it has grown into individuals making an impact by doing something positive for our planet.

🧠Why Water Week?

The main goals of Water Week are to:

  • Raise awareness about the importance of water for ecosystems, human health, and sustainable development.

  • Encourage action to reduce water pollution, conserve water, and protect local watersheds.

  • Engage communities through arts, music, film, and educational programs to foster a culture of water stewardship.

  • Support global initiatives, aligning with the United Nations’ World Water Day, which focuses on issues like access to safe water, sanitation, and sustainable water management.

🤸How to Participate

Individuals and organizations can participate by:

  • Hosting or attending local water-related events, such as cleanups, educational workshops, or community celebrations.  Invite your friends to a water quality dinner party!

  • Reducing personal water pollution and conserving water in daily life, learning about storm water runoff, and minimizing chemical and pollutant runoff.

  • Supporting water-focused charities and initiatives that provide clean water and sanitation locally or internationally.

  • Sharing knowledge and raising awareness about water issues with friends, family, and community members.
